Med. Fall 2019
Nov 18th - Dec 31st, 2019
Punta de Tarifa, and the lighthouse. A very strategic point for Spain. And, also the western inlet to the Strait of Gibraltar
We had good speed through the Strait of Gibraltar, with only the Genoa, and 1.7 kt current with us we did almost 9kt.
Cheers in Jäger for passing through the imaginary bridge over the strait of Gibraltar. Connecting two continents ;-)
Gibraltar
Nice view from Marina de Alcaidesa, Gibraltar, on the Spanish side. Very nice and affordable marina which we definitely can recommend.
Visiting the Iconic Gibraltar for a day
We took the gondola up to the top
View from the top. The marina is in the distance, on the Spanish side
Looking down from the top, on the Mediterranean side. This is where the nice beaches are. A little cold in the water now though
View from the top
Monkey, Monkeys everywhere...
How many monkeys in this picture ;-)
We hiked around the whole cliff of Gibraltar, Mediterranean steps trail. Pretty steep here. Lots of steps
Anders outside the cave, and then taking picture from the inside of the cave
View from the top of the ridge, and top of the Mediterranean trail
View from O'Hara's Battery looking south towards Europa point, and Africa
Went underground at the O'Hara's Battery to see the machinery.
We walked back on the west side on Royal Anglian way. Windsor Suspension bridge was part of the trail
Thought it was kind of fun with Devil's Gap Battery since we live in Devil's Thumb neighborhood in Boulder, Colorado
So many road signs here in Gibraltar ;-)
I don't like snakes :-(
Left Gibraltar when the weather cleared after two days of rain and wind
Benalmadena marina:
Crew, Johan Strömbäck
Beautiful morning in Benalmadena marina
New crew member arrived from Sweden yesterday. We’re happy to have Johan with us on Horizon 😀⛵️
Punta de La Mona
Nice anchorage at Punta del la Mona. We explored the little town
Stunning clouds over the mountains, seen from our anchorage
Same day different conditions
Playa de los Genoveses
On our hike up to the closest hill
Spectacular south Spain coastline
Moon, Venus and Jupiter seen pretty close together on this beautiful night sky
View over our anchorage, from the top
When the sea is calm we can do projects while we're sailing. Here we replaced our broken solenoid unit for the propane
Another calm day cruising east on the south coast of Spain
So more time for chores. Here repair of the spinnaker bag
Cala Cerrada
This anchorage was a real gem. Only two buoys, and no anchoring aloud. Very close to Batteria de Castillitos
Hike up to the closest hilltop
Perfect place to take Blackbird, our drone out
In the same cove there was a scuba diving boat. We asked if they could dive down under our boat and film the bottom with our GoPro. They were happy to do that. After we gave him a small bottle of rum from Puerto Rico, he got super happy and almost opened the bottle and started to drink on his way back swimming ;-)
Another beautiful sunset
Yacht Port Cartagena
Lunch stop in Cartagena bay. We had a quiet spot on the west side. Closer to Cartagena, to the east, it was super busy with lots of tankers anchored. Can you spot the arch?
The inlet to Cartagena harbor
City walk in Cartagena. This is one of the old Amphitheaters.
What to do on Horizon a rainy day in Cartegena. Of course we Swedes are making Glögg from what ingredients we happen to have on the boat. Pretty good result. With Christmas music playing we’re getting in to the Christmas spirit 🤶🎅 Cheers
Seen in the restrooms in the marina :-)
Love Lighthouses
Oops, it looks like we are back in Miami 🤔 But this is La Manga beach
Storm clouds are moving away this morning. Leaving Torrevieja
Anchored outside “party town” Benidorm 😀🥂
Benidorm in the sunset.
The mountain with the square notch is Puig Campana . The rock offshore is said to be the missing bit kicked into the sea by a giant or god.
This is the rock offshore, in the sunset
Just a sample of all the cool rock formations on the east coast of Spain. From Torrevieja up to Denia.
So happy with our new bikes, they extend our range dramatically. Bromptons they are!
At the top of Castillo la Dénia, overlooking the marina where Horizon is
Festivities in the old city of Denia
Captains dinner in the marina in Denia
Time to fly home to Boulder for Christmas. Horizon is safely moored in Valencia. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
The whole extended family were in Boulder together for the Holidays. Such a special time 💕
